So you want to get the Thesis Theme for Wordpress? Here is the best reason in the world why I think you shouldn’t.
During the early years of Wordpress, designing themes was a fine art. Wordpress Themes were at best pretty and well designed and at worst, ugly, buggy and downright dangerous. Amazingly enough this was a great thing! Why you ask, would anyone in their right mind think having a platter of dicey Wordpress themes running around the internet going amok be in any way beneficial?
The answer is as simple… less competition.
Think about it, the less sites there are competing for Googles favored glance the better. It makes it easy, sometimes ridiculously easy to rank for tasty keywords if a site is badly optimized. A bad theme on a Wordpress site, hell even a good one may do you no favors in Googles eyes if you have poor layout and even worse on page optimistaion for search engines.
In reality there are very few options out there to help with this. True, there are great plugins which can sharpen up your sites SEO but still you have to deal with re-giggling all your optimized settings every time you move to another theme.
So what makes Thesis different? Well everything really. For as start SEO optimization is built in straight from the get go. Once installed Thesis seta up all your posts with an eye for the Googlebot. IN no-time at all you have a clean mean SEO machine. Don’t believe me, check out Matt Cutts blog, if he is using Thesis you really should listen (but please don’t!).
How does this fix the problem with switcing designs, or in the case of Wordpress themes? Well in many respects it doesn’t, it makes the concept of ‘changing themes’ obselete. A bold statement, one theme to rule them all are fighting words indeed but in this case they are completely accuracte.
This is were the real mastery comes in, Thesis by Default is a blank sparce beast. Plain while and clean. Sharp ut not really much to look at. Moving into the theme options exposes a feast of options which with a few clicks can completely transform your layout, colors and design and all without touching a piece of code.
It doesn’t stop there. There are also custom css and php files which abstract css layout and custom functions into their own individual files. This means you can add just the css you need to change your site and it will take priority over all other styles. Same goes for php functions.
Separation of code from content, SEO site optimization, limitless design possibilities and super sharp support to help with every issue.
Sounds to good to be true, not really, just very well designed. There is one catch, you need to pay for it but really if you are serious about your site(s) then the cost is minuscule in comparison to the benefits it brings.
Please please please do not get Thesis. I need every edge I can get and the last thing I need is more competition.
